Description
This species reaches a size of 6-10 mm. The male differs for the diffused light areas, absent or almost in the female, furthermore the latter is larger and has a particularly developed telson (terminal section of the abdomen), needle-like, which makes them unmistakable. The elytra are shorter than the length of the body and the first article of the posterior tarsus is as long as the following three put together.
Distribution and habitat
The adults are floricultural, easily found during the hot season and often in the company of other insects, while the larval development takes place in the dead wood of various trees.
Period of activity from March to September. The male is much more common than the female. She spends the winter as a pupa.
